Do You Know How to Pronounce OS X?

How do you pronounce OS X? Some people say its, "OS Ten," some say its, "OS X" (as in EX). But what is it really, do you know? Well, thanks to Chris Priscillo's recent blog posting, there is a way that you can now know once and for all.

How, pray tell, can you really know once and for all?

Simple: Open up the terminal and use the 'say' command. Chris, who is into video in a big way these days, demonstrated how to in a video that I really enjoyed. Personally, I never even knew there was such a thing as a 'say' command in OS X until I read Chris's blog. Anyway, I, being the curious type, of course, followed the instructions and sure enough I got the answer to the buggy little question of how do you pronounce OS X!

So, there you go, if your a little bored or curious just open up terminal and just type in the word "say", then hit space, then write what ever you wish in quotes. In this case, of course, first type the letter "x". Then use the 'say' command again but type in quotes, "OS X." The computer itself will then pronounce the correct pronunciation.

There you have it, strait from the horse's (computers) mouth, the one and only correct way to pronounce the name of Apple's award winning OS.

What is the correct pronunciation you ask? Hey, I know, but I'm not going to say - you'll have to use the 'say' command in the terminal to find the answer, or, of course, you can just click on Chris's link below and let him tell you what it is.

One thing, I will say, is that even though I have knowingly been using the INCORRECT pronunciation all along, I will continue to use it, as personally, I think that it just sounds a lot cooler than the proper pronunciation.

And thats my 2 cents 4 this day, Friday, October 26, on the proper pronunciation of OS X.

blogging has gotten me to the server side of the webosphere for the first time. as a result there have been "terminal" necessities from time to time. this one was much fun and quite interesting!

thanks!
