Far, far away there is this fairyland, a land of can do, where anything is possible, or so it seems , a land called - Dubai! In Dubai they build bigger, better and taller than anywhere else on earth, and frankly, unlike anywhere else too.
Now, according to DesignBoom.com there is a proposal by a company called Vision-Vision to build this huge, enormous, absolutely incrediable and, believe it or not (remember: this is Dubai!) a moving and talking statue! Yes, people may tell stories about other great statures, but this gesticulating mammoth will be the first to tell passerby's stories, and thus leaving all of the other great statues of the world dumbstruck in silence!
Yes, you read right, an enormous story telling statue called Al Haawati (the storyteller) for Zaabeel Park in fabulous Dubai may just become a reality. Apparently, it will have elevators that can whisk you to a night of dancing in it's built-in disco, conveniently located, of course, in it's massive head. The views from his eyes will be nothing short of spectacular, but again, this is Dubai!
At it's base it will house a children's entertainment center and I'm sure that this is one stature that will quickly become one of the most famous and recognizable landmarks ever, on the scale of the Statue of Liberty, Rio's Statue of Christ, the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, etc.
I'm not sure of the height of this thing , other than it's very, very tall. However, by judging by some of those nearby fabulous skyscrapers that Dubai is so famous for, I'm guessing that this thing stands a lot taller than John Wayne ever did in his saddle. It looks to be between, judging by it's neighbors, to be about 100 to 200 meters or more - 300 to 600 feet - as tall as a thirty or sixty story office tower! Wow, this little country of Dubai may be small in area, but boy, oh, boy, they are anything but in imagination and daring!.
Of course, that is if it is ever built? But remember: this is Dubai, and if it's built anywhere it will be right here in the fabulous desert fairyland of Dubai, where apparently they don't know the word for it's impossible! For the rest of the world yes, it might be impossible, but in Dubai it's just another possibility and another ordinary and normal day - normal for Dubai that is.
I don't know if it will be built, or if it is, that we can expect it to eventually go on a date with New York's grand lady, the Statue of Liberty, but I think that they would make a great couple, don't you? After all, the world can never have enough giant statures to remind us how small wee people are, so I say: go Dubai, go!
And that's my 2 cents 4 this Monday, May 11, 2009
