MacTablet: The Rumor I Hope Isn't A Rumor!

Wow, here's one rumor I sure hope is anything but a rumor, and is something that I've been hoping for all along!

It's now being rumored that Apple's upcoming new, whiz-bang MacTablet will be one based on - get this - a full implementation of OS X!

Yeah baby! No stinking slimed down iPhone OS X either!

This will be great for many reasons. For one, if this rumor pans out, and according to Gizmodo it comes from a source that has been 100% historically correct in the past, this means that it's performance will absolutely blow away any netbook, or cheap PC laptop, to utter smithereens! It also means that any upcoming MacTablet will be able to do things that mere netbooks could only dream of doing with their dumbed-down cpu's, etc.

Yes, according to Gizmodo's post, someone has not only seen what could be prototypes, but quite possibly the actual finished tablets themselves! These units were reportedly seen recently in a Chinese factory in Shenzuen, and were "..... running Mac OS X 10.5." Not only that, but they saw not one, but three such devices - 10, 13 and 15 inchers!

Now this is getting interesting!

As Gizmodo also further pointed out, "..... Apple may be just exploring other form factors, and these three models may or may not be future products." However, I can't see Apple "just exploring" here. No, I think that these, if not the actual finished products themselves, they should be very, very close to the final form factor once these sweet babies start hitting the streets in early 2010!

Can you just imagine these baby's being sold at the high-end of the netbook scheme of things, and at the low-end for budget PC's, and what kind of impact that these products would have on the overall market place? I do - it would virtually kill off most if not all of the netbook market, and seriously endanger the low-end on the PC laptop side.

I've heard it several times before, that Apple's upcoming tablets would be a game changer and now I'm really beginning to believe it. As you can see from the opening concept design pics (via Gizmodo) for Apple's "Next insanely great" product, it does kind of look like a giant iPhone on steroids, but this time around it would be sporting a full implementation of OS X Snow Leopard, meaning it could do even more than any existing iPhone could hope for. One thing for sure, even though these tablets were sporting Leopard, it's quite obvious that Snow Leopard will be in the final product release, considering it's increased speed, power, stability and security and it's new underlining technologies that easily could propel any Apple MacTablet successfully into the stratosphere, and a place where no PC tablet have ever previously and successfully gone before.

The tablet concept may have originally come from the PC side, but just like the iPhone and the iPod, USB, DVD drives, the old 3.5 inch diskettes, and many other things, it looks like once again that it will be Apple who will take this concept and finally make it mainstream.

It's going to be fun watching the whole world go googled-eyed over Apple's new baby, and at the same time watch as Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, Dell and a million other mom and pop outfits, the world over, all scrambled to catch a ride on Apple's tablet dust!

And that's my 2 cents 4 this Friday, August 28, 2009

Thanks Dan, and yes your correct, with a full copy of OS X Snow Leopard running, especially considering it's vastly reduced size or footprint, this baby should be one fantastic Window tablet ass-kicking device!
