The Most Blatant Apple Rip Off Yet?

If copying is indeed the sincerest form of flattery, well then I guess that the great nation of China has just got to be the sincerest nation on the face of the Earth! Yes, what might seem to be an original iMac in the above opening illustration is anything but! It is, however, one of the most blatant iMac rip offs yet. (Click to embigen!)

The only thing missing from the above rip off is Apple's distinctive logo and the use of OS X as this shameless iMac copy-cat actually rather runs on an Android based OS, and not the good old OS X that everybody else, from Android, Linux and Microsoft and etc., also loves to borrow and copy features from.

I'm sure that this iMac rip off also has a cheap price to help justify its cheap hardware, but that's just an assumption on my part. Whether it copies Apple's exact components or not, such as it use of vivid IPS LED screens, Intel cpu's, etc., I don't know, but one thing I do: I wouldn't want to go anywhere near one, let alone buy one!

What is it with the Chinese when it comes to the wholesale ripping off of other nations intellectual property and ideas anyway? I've even seen where they will buy and reverse engineer an entire jet fighter, such as an F-16, for crying out loud! Personally, if my two favorite nations, Canada or the great nation of Germany, where to also do the same thing, and to the same degree, I think I would hang my head in shame, but not so for the Chinese, no sir, they seem to actually take great pride in bragging that others nations ideas are actually the result of their own ingenuity. Shame, shame, I say!

Of course, when you come to think about it, it's really no surprise that the Chinese would blatantly copy Apple's products since everyone else these days seems to be doing it in some shape or form anyway. It doesn't matter where you look, be it Windows 7, Compiz Fusion and Linux, Android and others, they all pretty much do it ........ rip off Apple's ideas. From Apple Stores to the App Store, the iPod, iPhone and iTunes, etc., what ever Apple does first, others are sure to follow and claim that they, more-or-less, are the ones who where behind all of these great innovations in the first place. After all, why wouldn't they? Apple just happens to be in a very sweet spot these days, being named the most valuable of the top 50 companies by Fortune.

Even though Microsoft, which has been trying to catch up to Apple recently, for example, will at least add their own spin on things by providing a few new improvements, etc., but not so with all of these cheap Chinese clones, all of which are pretty much inferior in every way.

Of course, I'm pretty dang bloody sure that Apple hasn't exactly seen the last of these copy cats, and that you can bet your last pair of green pair of polka-dot bloomers on. Even though many believe it will be hard, if not impossible, for others such as Microsoft, HP, etc., to ever pass Apple that won't stop them from trying.

In conclusion, as pathetic as all of these Apple rip-offs are, when it comes to the Chinese no one does it better or more blatantly than they. I just wish they didn't have to be so obvious, shameless and blatant in the process.

And that's my 2 cents 4 this Monday, August 02, 2010

You're an idiot and there is no company more deserving of getting ripped off than Apple. They've tripled their stock value by ripping off other peoples ideas. This corporate practice goes all the way back to the 80's. They put a sexy skin on free and open source applications, changing just enough to grab a patent, and charge outrageous amounts of money for them. Then you ignorant techno-sheep stand in line for days to shell it out. It's about time Apple got a taste of their own medicine. Apple is computer fashion and the fad will eventually die out. I find no greater pleasure than converting "mac-addicts" with a little bit of education and exposure to the wonderful world of FREE open source linux. Where almost all of Apple's features came from originally. People really seem to get a little upset when they realize how bad they've been screwed. Some have even wiped OS$$ and loaded Ubuntu, never looking back. It's easy to do since the mac is just another PC. It's just $700 more expensive than the same hardware from any other company. I've also helped people that were really stuck on Apple buy $600 HP laptops and skin Linux so it looked and felt like OS$$. Maybe you should save your 2 cents because you're going to need it to do anything on your precious crApple.

Dear Anonymous, I noticed that lin-tards, and wind-tards, look at only two things: the highest specs and the lowest prices, equating low prices, or better yet, free as equalling high value.

Why, you realize that, in the 80', there was only the Mac classic. Oh, before you say they ripped off Xerox, being ignorant yourself, obviously, you probably didn't know that Apple PAID Xerox 100 million in common stock for the right to use Xerox's abandoned ideas. The only way the compared, as Mr. Wood, one of the Xerox's chief designer of the Xerox Star, was that they both used icons and mice, other than that they are completely different.

As for OS X, it isn't based on Linux, but being ignorant you probably didn't realize that BSD and Linux are not one and the same! Both are based on Unix, but since Leopard OS X has become one of only three or four officially certified UNix, namely Unix 3. You can't say that about plain old BSD or Linux. Move on!

As far as wonderful Ubuntu is concerned, it's so dam great that it, alone with every other of the one-million or so Linux distros, have now less then 1% of the market share. Apple might cost more, but they also have the highest rate of customer satisfaction period!

Ubuntu I have and enjoy, from time to time, but only as a toy, for real work I use OS X and Windows not some OS that you need to be some kind of geek to get anything done. I love how Linux copies the OS X dock, zooming, transparency, and animations. They add a little here, and there, and think that they have innovated something great.... hah... hah! As for helping people to skin and make their cheap HP laptops look and feel like OS X, well, isn't that calling the kettle black?

Normally, when people hide behind an "anonymous" comment I don't bother to publish it, but your childish name calling and lack of the facts makes it so humorous I simply can't resist.

Oh, by the way, have a good day, and I sincerely mean that. I don't share you views, but that's ok as I never claimed to be perfect.
